About PhiloWiki
PhiloWiki is a map of philosophy you can read. It connects thousands of ideas, philosophers, schools and works, and for as many of them as it can, it shows the exact passages in public-domain books where the idea is discussed, so you can read what the thinkers wrote and not only what is written about them.
How it is made
- The map. Overviews and relationships come from Wikipedia articles. Each page links its source article.
- The texts. Books come from Project Gutenberg and are split into chapters and passages.
- The links between them. A search over the books finds passages for each idea. Passages marked confirmed passed stricter checks. Passages marked possible were found by search and have not been checked by a person; they may only mention the idea in passing. Where nothing good was found, the page says so.
What to keep in mind
- Some entities have an imperfect category (a person filed as a concept, for example). If you see a mistake, tell us.
- The library is limited to what is in the public domain, so recent philosophy is thin for now.
- This is a young project. Pages and addresses can change.
